AVOs, where to start…

Should you ever consent to the making of an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order before receiving legal advice?

The answer is, definitely not.  They are a one way ticket to gaol. You face up to two years jail if you contravene a condition of the AVO.

If you consent to the making of an AVO, the order will be made for 2 years.

Depending on the conditions of the order, you may contravene the AVO by going home, speaking to your children, or replying to a text message.

If a Final AVO is made, you are likely to struggle to have the order varied or revoked.

Get legal advice before you go to court for an AVO application.
